Himalayan Ibex dig into the snow, to attain tubers and roots of Himalayan herb plants and alpine flora. The lean season sustenance for Himalayan ungulates comprises of dry grasses and tubers and it's a tough life for them in these difficult winter months, and they have to stay doubly alert for attacks from predators such as the Snow Leopard. The Ibex can be seen burrowing into the snow and using their body heat to melt the snow in patches to get underneath it, to the plants and sedges growing below.
