Our journey started from Delhi during the wee hours of the morning under a sky still bereft of any light, to witness a riot of colours in an arid, barren land situated amidst the beautiful Aravali Hills. After some bargaining, we found a ride from Ajmer Junction to our destination in Pushkar for Rs. 500 or around 7 US dollars. One is rewarded with the rustic experience of old Ajmer, the massive Annasagar Lake and a larger than life statue of Maharana Pratap astride his brave mount, Chetak, on the serpentine route near Nag Parbat. Pushkar is set in a valley surrounded by the Aravali mountains on three sides and an open, arid landscape on the fourth.
