The stark green-ness of this post monsoon profusion of rice paddies in the fields outside Vangani town in Maharashtra shows the verdant moist nature of the flanks of the Western Ghats and their amenity to agriculture, especially water-greedy rice paddy cultivation. Coconut palms are the only occasional offset to the green cultivation landscape. Fly over the rice paddies up close as you see the ripening stalks of rice in the fields, all evenly spaced out. Edges of the township are clearly invading the cultivation zone, and houses and development are catching up with the agricultural belt.
