The art of weaving is widely used in central and eastern part of Bhutan. Bhutanese textiles are appreciated for being colourful and having a variety of intricate patterns. The Royal textile academy was inaugurated by her majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck on the 5th June 2013. The Textile weaves of Bhutan show the visitors intricate patterns of the national attire of Bhutan- Kira for women and Gho for men and another form of western, Indian dresses made of fibres such as wool, raw silk, raw cotton, yak hair (Yathra product), Bura and others. The most expensive fibre is raw silk. There are two types of weaving: 1: Kar chang (Plain Woven) It is a simple form of plain weaving that consumes less time and comfortable to wear as well.
