District Sericulture Office Aizawl looks after all Sericulture activities in the District. Administration of all Mulberry Seed Farm, village circles, Cocoon Purchasing Centres and Implementation of plan Scheme in the State and many other project under CDP(CSB) were carried out in the District. The Department Supplies Rearing equipment, Silkworm Seeds, Mulberry Cutting and GCI Sheet to the Farmers. Mizoram emerge as one of the known producer of silk in India. Sericulture is an agro-based industry. It involves rearing of silkworms for the production of raw silk, which is the yarn obtained out of cocoons spun by certain species of insects. The major activities of sericulture comprises of food-plant cultivation to feed the silkworms which spin silk cocoons and reeling the cocoons for unwinding
