Trucks pass through the heart of Rajaji National Park, causing disturbances to protected wildlife habitats and rare species such as tiger and elephant. Sometimes, trains and trucks hit and kill elephants that are not able to move fast enough across the tracks before a speeding train comes along. There are resident populations of locals, especially Gujjars, inside the park, and there is an active project to move them to areas outside the park, such as Pathri. See a Hindustan Ambassador car barrel down a road inside Chilla, in the old days... That's a lovely view of the Ganga as it passes through the forest zone below Haridwar, near the Chilla Canal.
