A Jal Mandir located near Sambhar Lake alongside a large flock of Greater Flamingo feeding in the shallow saline waters. The white temple structure features domes and open-sided architecture commonly associated with water temples in India. Sambhar Lake is India’s largest inland saltwater lake and functions as an important wintering site for migratory flamingos along the Central Asian Flyway. The birds usually arrive between October and November and remain until May during the migratory season. The mineral-rich lake environment supports algae and small crustaceans that form a major part of the flamingos’ diet. The video documents the interaction of religious architecture and migratory bird activity within the wetland ecosystem of Rajasthan.
