Daler Mehndi speaks about his initial days as a singer. He says, "I celebrate Holi like every child in India with water balloons and colours and now I stay away from colours. When I was a kid I used to mix paints with colours so that it will remain on the skin for 2-3 days. As I am from Bihar I celebrated Holi with Abir Gulaal a lot. When I was 5 years old I sang a Shabad at Gurudwara which was taught by my father and then I learned from Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for 2 years and where I am today I wanted this in 1982-83. I had hope that one day I will be famous. A J Jaspal heard me singing at a function and he sent his friend to take my number but I didn't have any number that time. He always motivated me.
