This beautiful wildlife footage from last year at Sambhar Lake near Jaipur captures Greater Flamingos, scientifically known as Phoenicopterus roseus, feeding up close in the shallow salt pans of India’s largest inland saltwater lake. The flamingos can be seen wading gracefully through mineral-rich waters, sweeping their curved bills side to side to filter algae, plankton, and microscopic organisms—an essential feeding behavior unique to these iconic birds. Sambhar Lake is a crucial seasonal habitat for migratory flamingos, especially during periods when water levels and salinity are suitable for food availability.
