Monkeys being fed by a man, with mangoes and bananas. Is feeding of macaques encouraging them to breed and live, breed and proliferate around human habitations? Should we encourage feeding animals in this fashion? Keep in mind that these monkeys could be carriers of rabies and other diseases and they often bite human beings too! A monkey is a primate of the Haplorrhini suborder and simian infraorder, either an Old World monkey or a New World monkey, but excluding apes (including humans). There are about 260 known living species of monkey. Many are arboreal, although there are species that live primarily on the ground, such as baboons.
