A graceful pair of Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus) walks slowly through the dry scrub forest of Sariska, Rajasthan. The male, with his iridescent blue neck and long ornamental tail coverts, moves confidently beside the more subtly colored female (peahen), whose earthy brown plumage provides excellent camouflage among the bushes. The semi-arid landscape of Sariska, dotted with thorny shrubs and dry deciduous trees, provides an ideal habitat for these birds. As they forage on the forest floor, they search for seeds, insects, small reptiles, and fallen grains. The Indian Peafowl is the national bird of India, widely distributed across the country in forests, farmlands, and near human settlements.
