The Common Hawk Cuckoo or Brainfever bird calls in the humid hot summer heat in a mango orchard around Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. It's harvest time and the trees are being bared of their aam fruit. How a day is spent at an aam ka bagiya in Uttar Pradesh, during aam ka season! Langda and dussehri mangos are sorted and packed into plastic tokris or baskets, to be sent to the local mandi or market for bulk sales to a thekedar, and then for retail sale to consumers. The fruit packers keep up a banter between them, to keep their minds occupied apart from the mechanical manual labour work. It must be hot and humid sweaty out in the orchard!
