Th railway line to Haridwar terminates there and does not enter the Himalayan mountains! Here you can see the crowded city of Haridwar at the base of the Himalaya, with the Ganga canal cutting across the town to one side, and the Ganga river sweeping down the valley on the other side, in its natural course of flow. Post the Kumbh Mela, Haridwar and Rishikesh have been receiving pilgrims and the devout in large numbers. See this expansive aerial view of the Ganges as seen from the Hindu pilgrim town at the base of the Himalaya where the Ganges enters the plains out of the confines of its mountainous flow.
