The male is a dapper black and white while the female is a dignified grey and white. The two make a great caring couple of parents for their four chick brood hiding in the exposed nest hollow of a guava tree. In the hollow created by a broken tree trunk, a pair of Magpie Robins have cleverly decided to nest. Birds try and avoid upward facing hollows as the rain tends to then enter, but this couple took the chance as it was summer-time and no other hollows were readily available (all were occupied by other birds!). The cyclones brought much rain but the chicks grew up and fledged yesterday, successfully! Yippee.... We filmed a nest of the Oriental Magpie Robin inside the hollow of an old Guava tree trunk.
