Artisans in Titarpur and Tis Hazari are preparing large Ravana effigies ahead of Dussehra celebrations in October 2019. Skilled craftsmen construct towering figures of the demon king Ravana using bamboo frameworks, layered newspaper, paper-mâché, and brightly colored decorative materials. Workers paint the multiple heads and facial features using vivid shades of pink, blue, gold, and other traditional festival colours. The workshops are filled with partially completed effigies in different stages of assembly before their public display during Dussehra events. These large structures are traditionally packed with fireworks and later burned during festival ceremonies, symbolising the victory of good over evil in Hindu mythology.
