This scene from Kaziranga National Park shows a calm waterhole where a herd of wild water buffalo (Bubalus arnee) is resting, most of them partially or fully submerged in the water. Several Cattle Egrets (Bubulcus ibis) perch on the buffaloes’ backs, picking insects as they move around the waterhole. On the grassy bank beside the water, two Hog Deer (Axis porcinus) are quietly grazing on fresh grass. Standing close to them is a large male Water Buffalo (Bubalus arnee), grazing along the shoreline. His massive build creates a striking contrast with the delicate size of the deer, adding a powerful layer to the scene. Together, the submerged herd, the perched egrets, the two deer, and the big grazing buffalo capture the rich, multi-species harmony that defines Kaziranga’s wetlands. Kaziranga
