A juvenile common hawk-cuckoo or Brainfever bird perches on a dry bamboo as it waits to be fed my a long tailed-shrike (Lanius schach). The long tailed-shrike comes flying down with a caterpillar between its beak to feed the cuckoo. The mother feeding the 'chick' is less than half the size of the chick it is undertaking to feed. A pair of long-tailed shrike roost on top of a small branch as the other flies off while the other looks like it is sharpening its beak. Is this bio-mimicry at play? Avian brood parasitism is exhibited by the common hawk-cuckoo where it lays its eggs in the nest of another bird species and leaves the eggs to be hatched and taken care of by the host birds.
