Leh Palace, also known as Lachen Palkar Palace, stands on the rocky slopes above Leh in Ladakh, overlooking the high-altitude town. The historic nine-storey structure features traditional Ladakhi and Tibetan architectural elements, including tapering walls, small windows and flat rooftops. Buddhist religious structures and old stone buildings are scattered across the surrounding hillside, while roads and modern infrastructure connect the palace area with the town below. Leh’s dense settlement extends across the valley floor and lower mountain slopes, with traditional and modern buildings interspersed among clusters of poplar and willow trees.
