A Griffon Vulture (Gyps fulvus) soars high against a clear blue sky with its broad wings spread wide. The large, pale-headed bird is seen from below, and its long, finger-like wingtip feathers are clearly spread as it glides. Griffon vultures ride rising warm air currents, called thermals, to stay aloft for hours without flapping, scanning the ground for carcasses. They are important scavengers, since they clean up dead animals and help keep the ecosystem healthy. This clip offers a clean, close look at the vulture in graceful flight.
