One can see a beautiful old monastery on this hill top after Tangtse village in Ladakh district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. Tangtse lies on the valley floor through which the Harong stream flows. Surrounded by mountains, the village lies on flat arid ground with greenery to be seen only along the Harong stream. One road leads down from Chang La pass, another goes south toward Chusrul, and another crosses the stream and goes generally eastward toward Pangong Tso. Ladakh "land of high passes" is a region of India in the state of Jammu and Kashmir that extends from the Karakoram Range in the north to the main Great Himalayas to the south, inhabited by people of Indo-Aryan and Tibetan descent.
