A herd of bharal (Pseudois nayaur), also called blue sheep, in the high, dry mountains of Ladakh. It opens on a snow-covered peak under a grey sky, then picks out a few animals walking across a bare, stony slope. More and more appear, and a large herd spreads over a scree hillside, grazing slowly on the sparse dry plants between the rocks. Some stand watchfully, a few trot across the frame, and the group keeps shifting as animals come and go. Near the end, smaller grey animals blend into a rocky red-brown slope and are hard to spot. The footage shows how well this mountain sheep is camouflaged and how it lives in one of the harshest landscapes in India.
