Social activist Medha Patkar speaks about Sardar Sarovar Dam. She says ' There is as per Narmada tribunals award requirement that Madhya Pradesh supplies 8.12 million acre feet of water for Sardar Sarovar from its upstream projects or wherever. We are saying that first of all the Sardar Sarovar itself is not viable and is not going to solve the water crisis in Gujarat. So why first of all take up such a high dam. Now wherever it has stopped at the height of 270 feet, let the water that are ponded even violating the basic legal and human rights of the valley residents but let that be used now. Through whatever canal is already built. But the regulated supply from the Madhya Pradesh then will not be required to the extent that the tribunal had expected to be. On the other hand let the Madhy
