Minister of Finance of India and politician P. Chidambaram says,"I think Rajiv Gandhi knew he was losing the elections but he was not ready to admit it. In the south, of course, we were winning but in the North, we were losing. When he was in opposition he was a very different person. He was the much better idea of men and matters whom you could trust, whose judgment you can rely upon that's when I think I| became rather close to him in the sense of working with him virtually throughout the day.
