A herd of domestic yaks in the remote Spiti Valley graze while being corralled. See their cute red ear decorations? Despite their robust appearance, these animals have an easy temperament which makes them easily managed by humans. Yaks are large-sized ungulates of the Himalayan range. As all bovids, these animals are worshipped by Hindus and considered sacred. Nowadays, these animals are easily found and often used as a way of transport around the Himalayas. You can actually ride these woolly bovid through the arid and picturesque mountain meadows and green pastures of Spiti Valley. Wild yak populations are considered vulnerable but these long-haired bovids can still be spotted in the Himalaya states of India.
