A family of Langurs enjoying life while hanging on a tree. A snack is always welcome! Pesky rhesus macaques and Hanuman langurs are as present in Landour as anywhere. Poaching has severely reduced the numbers of the larger wild mammals, though the habitat itself could support larger populations. Of course, most charismatic megafauna had already been wiped out by the British in the 19th century. The Gray Langur or Hanuman Langur (Semnopithecus) is a genus of monkey. They are found in southeast Asia. The word "langur" means 'having a long tail.' It is commonly called the Leaf Monkey.
