Women and children in a village in Garhwal district of Uttarakhand struggle to fetch water, gathering around the village water supply area. Note the religious idol placed above the source of water, perhaps to sanctify it or ensure permanence. Water is carried back in brass containers. Brass is said to purify water and keep it clean and cool for longer. Apparently evident is the deprivation of water; hence the womenfolk can be seen gathering around a community tap to do their daily chores. Some even return back home with empty vessels.
