At the peak of summer heat, the garlic and onion crops are harvested in north India. Here, in a small urban private garden, the gardeners chat among themselves and coordinate their khurpi work, as they loosen up the ground to get to the garlic and onion tubers underground, in the hard dry soil, even as a Coppersmith Barbet calls overhead. Pyaaz and lehsun or lassan are harvested and dried before consumption through the rest of the year.
