Rupin Dang explains Dendrochronology or Science of tree ring analysis at St. Pauls School, Darjeeling. " The science of Dendrochronology centres around the study of 'tree-rings'. The rings and the cross section of a tree when its been cut to interpret the age of a tree. So, this tree here which has obviously been recently cut, its all moist.. I have just counted it has an age of 54 years. You count from the centre outwards in every ring represents one year. Now, whats really interesting about that is the distance between two rings can actually tell you something about the climate of the area and wether that year was good year in that area or not in terms of rain and sunshine or other climatic condition. So if two rings are really widely space apart that means the tree has grown really well
