Rupin Dang explains the giant Cryptomeria japonica trees in Darjeeling. "So familiar the people of Darjeeling with these trees here, The Dhupi trees that we sometimes forget that they don't really belong to these mountains and its the scientific name 'Cryptomeria japonica' that reminds us that this tree actually came from Japan and its the Botanist Campbell, who first brought the Cryptomeria japonica tree to Darjeeling and these two particular specimens you see here are perhaps that largest ones possibly in the world. The Cryptomeria japonica was brought here I think in the early 19th Century.
