The sacred Sangam at Rudraprayag in Uttarakhand, India, where the Mandakini River meets the Alaknanda River. The blue-green Mandakini flows into the muddy brown Alaknanda, with the contrasting water colours visible side by side before they blend downstream. A temple with steps leading towards the water stands beside the pebbled riverbanks. Further along, an old iron bridge crosses the river beneath a densely built hill town. Rudraprayag is one of the five sacred Prayags associated with the Alaknanda River and an important stop on pilgrimage routes towards Kedarnath and Badrinath.
