Swami Swarupananda was very particular about his studies and meditation. Though the Advaita Ashram itself was a very calm and secluded place, he would, nevertheless venture deep into the forest and there, in a tent, spend long hours in meditation. Even today the place where he meditated is known as Swarupananda point. It is a mute reminder to the great spiritual practices of the Swami. One day when he came out of the tent, he saw a big tiger nearby. Hearing of this incident later, Mrs. Sevier prevailed upon the Swami not to go into the dense forest anymore. She immediately had a kutia (cottage) constructed near the Ashrama, and Swami Swarupananda went there instead whenever he wanted to be alone.
