In Karnataka, sugarcane is being cultivated over an area of about 3.06 lakh hectares with a production of about 262 lakh tones of cane and stands third in India regarding area coverage next to Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Some of the important sugarcane growing districts in Karnataka state are Belgaum, Bagalkot, Mandya, Bidar, Bellary and Bijapur. Sugarcane in India is processed into sugar, gur and khandasari.
