Tehri Dam gets constructed - rare archival footage from 1988

Excavation work, drilling and tunnel building / boring activity for the Tehri Dam Hydro Power Corporation or THDC (Tehri Hydro-power Dam Corporation). The Tehri Dam has been a mixed blessing and 28 years hence (this was filmed in April 1988), we can safely say that it has actually been a failure as the dam has now started silting up. It did, however, create a buffer during the Uttarakhand Floods, preventing downstream damage and flooding in Haridwar and Rishikesh, by filling up the excess capacity within the dam. It has turned the Ganga into a brown slow flowing stream from a fast torrent, between Uttarakashi and the dam head-waters. Mr. Singh wears a hard hat and speaks about the dam's construction work.
