J Muthukumaran (34), a goldsmith from Vishwanathan Pillai Street here, has created a miniature cricket World Cup trophy less than 2 cm in height with just 720 milligrams (mg) of gold. Muthukumaran had been making jewellery for the last 20 years and had an urge to do something different. So he decided in 2010 to make miniatures with gold and silver. First I made a ‘thali’ using 90mg of gold, then I created a ring with 40mg of gold, a miniature ceiling fan with 840mg of gold, a small cradle using 3 grams of gold and a hand pump with 12 grams of silver,” Muthukumaran said.
