“Anand Singh ji, please tell us—this tradition of Ramleela in Allahabad, and the practice of taking out the Ram Dal procession here, has been continuing for hundreds of years. The spectacle it presents is truly extraordinary. What would you like to say about it?” Reply: “Actually, the Pattarchatti Shri Ramleela Committee is nearly 500 years old. In earlier times, the Ramleela performances were organized by the people of that era themselves. It is also said—and history bears witness—that Emperor Akbar provided financial support to this Ramleela and even granted land for it. However, the Ramleela was originally started by Goswami Tulsidas ji. He was associated with the Ramanuj community and came here about 500 years ago. After arriving here, he first initiated the Ramleela at Kamori Mahadev.
