One starts the trek for Madhyamaheshwar from the village of Ransi with its terraced fields, located beyond Ukhimath town in Uttarakhand. On the opposite side of the valley lie thickly forested and steep slopes within the Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. Madhyamaheshwar means 'Drunken God' and the temple is located a tough 16 kilometer trek away from Ransi village, the road head. The trek is a long slog through forest, some cultivation and lots of streams and past many waterfalls.
