This chick is all red inside of its mouth, and all mouth in general! The red gape pops up from under the mother House Crow as it clamours for food, looking rather comical. It's a real wonder crow parents don't crush their chicks when seated in their nests! The father crow tears apart a morsel of meat, eating the tough bits and serving the soft parts to the chicks. Chicks struggle for their parents' attention, squawking and opening their beaks even as their eyes are closed and they are essentially blind to the world.
