Sea turtles are gentle marine reptiles that inhabit all over the world except the Arctic region. They belong to the super family Chelonioidea and has a world wide distribution. Sea turtles have anaerobic system of respiration (a form of respiration using electron acceptors other than oxygen). They breathe air but under dire consequences, they may divert to anaerobic respiration for long periods of time. When they surface to breathe, a sea turtle quickly refill its lungs with a single explosive exhalation and rapid inhalation.
