Along the coastline of Odisha, hundreds of Olive Ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys olivacea) emerge from their sandy nests during the remarkable arribada nesting season. Tiny hatchlings instinctively crawl toward the sea, guided by natural light on the horizon. However, not all survive this perilous first journey. Some baby turtles lie lifeless on the beach, unable to reach the water due to exhaustion, disorientation, or natural challenges. Crows and other scavenging birds feed on the vulnerable hatchlings, reflecting the harsh realities of the natural cycle. While heartbreaking to witness, this scene is part of the ecological balance where predators and prey coexist.
