Catfish must count as some of the ugliest fish on earth! They slither, kick their tails and splash about at the surface of a village pond in Jaisalmer and are even comfortable out of water for short durations of time. Once we saw catfish walking outside a pond, onto dry land, for nearly hundred meters, and then returning to their water body! With their long whiskers and open gapes, if all those fancy restaurant goers in India who ask for basa catfish and conjure up visions of some fancy riverine fish from Vietnam, actually saw this ugly pond monster, they may well throw up on their restaurant tables or think otherwise before ordering Vietnamese hormone-fed basa catfish in the future!
