Rajasthan is known more for its vast stretches of Golden desert, picturesque sand dunes and typical desert life than for its water bodies or lakes. However, the few lakes that do exist comprise some of the most picturesque water bodies that one may come around. Gadisar Lake is one of the major tourist attractions of Jaisalmer. Gadisar Lake is actually a water conservation tank, made by the then maharaja of Jaisalmer, Maharwal Gadsi Singh around 1400 A.D. A beautiful arched gateway decorates the lake. Gadisar Lake Rajasthan was selected as it had natural declivity and automatically retained some of the rainwater.
