At Wilderness Orchard shows Heliconia rostrata growing in a landscaped tropical setting. The plant is recognized for its hanging zigzag-shaped inflorescence featuring bright red waxy bracts with greenish-yellow tips. These structures resemble lobster claws, giving rise to the common name “Hanging Lobster Claw.” Large paddle-shaped green leaves surrounding the flower closely resemble banana foliage. Heliconia rostrata is a herbaceous perennial species that grows in dense clumps and is widely cultivated in tropical and subtropical gardens for ornamental purposes.
