The Western Ghats of Maharashtra and around in western India. These mountains are an ancient range and only go up to a few thousand feet. Yes, there are local villages and communities residing along the river valleys. They have lived for eons and are very old communities with tremendous history. Farming, agriculture, fishing and dairying are the most important means of livelihood for them. This is mostly government owned land and preserved as part of the Ghats mountains. The villagers own their fields around the villages. The Deccan Traps are a large igneous province located on the Deccan Plateau of west-central India
