Historic flooding of the Yamuna River in Delhi during July 2023, when water levels reached an unprecedented 208.66 meters, surpassing the previous record set in 1978. Swollen by intense monsoon rainfall and heavy inflows from upstream regions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, the river expanded far beyond its normal course, inundating vast stretches of the floodplain. The muddy, fast-flowing waters carry large amounts of silt and debris, highlighting the force of the flood. Partially submerged trees and power transmission towers along the riverbanks reveal the extraordinary rise in water level and the scale of the disaster. The flooding affected transportation, infrastructure, residential areas, and thousands of people living in low-lying parts of the capital.
