Multiple trucks mounting members of various akharas lead their way to the ghats of Ganga for the holy dip in the holy water to attain spiritual salvation. Call it Kashi, Benaras or Varanasi, it remains one of the oldest living cities of India and across the globe and the holiest of them all. It is believed that a dip in the Ganga river washes away one's sins. All 16 different Hindu rituals from birth to death are conducted here. Most of the ghats are bathing and puja ceremony ghats, while two ghats - the Manikarnika Ghat and Harishchandra Ghat - are used exclusively as cremation sites.
