Lamayuru is a small village in Ladakh, midway between Kargil and Leh the Srinagar-Leh highway. Moon-like carvings on the surface of the Himalaya are the main attraction at this place. Along with boasting about the unique geographical feature, this place is also house to one of the oldest monasteries in Ladakh, The Lamayuru Monastery, as you can see in this video. The topography of the village looks rugged and steep. Situated amidst the cold dry desert the place has very sparse vegetation growth.
