During the Kanwar Yatra on the Meerut–Haridwar highway, thousands of devotees, known as Kanwariyas, walk with devotion and discipline to collect holy Ganga-jal. Wearing saffron or orange attire, they carry decorated kanwars made of bamboo, fitted with kalash (pots) filled with sacred water, along with flags, bells, rudraksha beads, flowers, Bel leaves, incense sticks and small religious idols of Lord Shiva. Many pilgrims walk barefoot, chanting “Bol Bam” and maintaining spiritual austerity throughout the journey. To support the yatra, the government and local administration make extensive highway arrangements.
