Kaas Lake or Kaas Talav, a popular tourist attraction of the region, is located in Satara District of Maharashtra and is situated at a distance of 26 km from Satara City. Kaas Lake, which lies at an altitude of 1067 m above sea level, is an artificial lake built in the year 1875. Surrounded by dense evergreen forests of the Sahyadri Range of the Western Ghats, Kaas Lake is a major stop over along the route to famous destinations of the region like Kasaidevi Temple, Yewateshwar Temple, Bamnoli and Tapola. Kaas Plateau, nestled in the Sahyadris (Western Ghats) in the District of Satara (of Mahabaleshwar fame), is also known as Maharashtra's Plateau of Flowers or the Valley of Flowers (being surrounded by valleys on two sides).
