Durga Puja is an event of celebration and supplication for thousands of Hindus in India. The festival is celebrated as a commemoration of Durga's triumph over the demon Mahisasura in Hindu mythology. This is one of the sacred rituals where the priest and devotees offer flames to the goddess. A priest is seen holding a lamp in front of the idol of Durga at a temple in New Delhi. The offering is accompanied by chanting of prayer and cymbals.
