Interview on Deforestation in Gorakhpur

In an interview, a man spoke about the environmental changes in the Gorakhpur region over the decades. He explained that Padrauna was once part of the Gorakhpur Commissionary, and that the region has undergone tremendous transformation over time. He mentioned that many people would be surprised to learn that Gorakhpur itself was classified as a C-grade hill station during the British Raj. According to him, the area was once covered with dense forests that stretched all the way to the Nepal border. However, he pointed out that over the past fifty to sixty years, extensive cutting and felling of trees have drastically altered the landscape. As a result, the climate has changed significantly. He further added that during the zamindari period, deforestation was not as widespread as it has been
